Robin Wauters of Techcrunch shared an interesting little nugget of information today. News that AT&T’s Yellow Pages purchased the domain name YP.com from LiveDeal (formerly YP Corp.) for $3.85 million. For LiveDeal, a leader in free local online classifieds, it’s a much needed cash injection. After higher than expected cost of services and lower revenues in 2008, the company made a loss of $1.53 million last year. A year ago, RoyalPingdom collated the top 20 most expensive domain name acq

Could MarCom (mar.com) be the marketing community’s answer to Techmeme? TechCrunch thinks not… but I’m not sure that’s the aim of MarCom anyway. MarCom doesn’t claim to be a news aggregrator so much as a news and social community for marketers. Indeed, MarCom describes itself as a ‘comprehensive web 2.0 community for offline and online markers with ranked news, articles and advice.’ According to its ‘about’ blurb, MarCom will allow marketers to network with other online marketers, and get the

Yesterday, the one-man-band of a tech blogger, Michael Arrington, let loose with yet another outrageously indignant diatribe–this time that he and his TechCrunch site would forthwith break all news embargoes. Not content with the traffic generated last week by his obviously faked Wrestlemania bout with French entrepreneur Loic Le Meur about the lazy-lunching Europeans, he moved onto a more promising, but ultimately meaningless riff on PR people versus journalists over embargo-breaking. It’

Twingly launched a new blog ranking tool yesterday. In a very modest way, the gentlemen from Sweden explain what’s it all about: “It’s like Google’s PageRank but only for blogs.” Plus, there’s a local touch, based on language. The largest blogs in Swedish gets BlogRank 10, the largest in Dutch get BlogRank 10 and the largest in English get BlogRank 10. This new blog rank serves as the basis for a take on Technorati’s Top 100. Yes, Twingly is launching 12 different top 100 blogs lists (Danish,

Background: From the December 5th Daily Telegraph (U.K.) : A New York barmaid was sacked after blogging about the Belgian defence minister's alleged antics during an official visit to the city. Nathalie Lubbe Bakker was fired from her job after government officials rang the bar owner to complain about the claims relating to Pieter De Crem .
